Biography

Marie Pomponnelle, also known as Marie dit La Pomponnelle or Pomponnelle, was a Fille du Roi (King's Daughter).

• Birth: Born around 1655 in Saint-Sulpice parish, Paris, Île-de-France, France.
  • Recorded Ages in Colony: She was recorded as 18 at the 1673 contract, 22 in the 1678 census, and 26 in the 1681 census, which supports an estimated birth year of 1655.
• Parents: Daughter of Pierre Pomponnelle and Jeanne Le Cardier.
• Migration: Arrived in New France in 1672 aboard the ship La Nouvelle France. She carried goods estimated at 300 livres for her dowry.

• Date: January 2, 1673.
• Location: Notre-Dame de Québec.
• Contract: Signed the same day (January 2, 1673) before Notary Gilles Rageot.
• Husband: Nicolas Petit dit Laprée.

  • Recorded Ages in Colony: He was recorded as 24 at the 1673 contract, 29 in the 1678 census, and 33 in the 1681 census, which supports an estimated birth year of 1649.
• Parents: Son of Nicolas Petit and Marguerite Lévesque (L'Évêque).
• Migration: Arrived in New France in 1669 as an indentured servant to Gabriel Gosselin, a habitant of Île d'Orléans.
