This document details the lives of Charles Godin (Gaudin), an early immigrant to New France, and his wife, Marie Boucher, a native-born daughter of an early pioneer family.

Charles Godin (c.1630 - c.1706)

Origins and Family

Charles Godin (name variant: Gaudin) was born around 1630 in Saint-Laurent de Beaumais (now Aubermesnil-Beaumais), Normandy, France. His parents were Jacques Gaudin and Marguerite Nicole (or Nicolle).[^1][^2][^3]

Marriage to Marie Boucher

A marriage contract was signed on October 1, 1656, before notary Guillaume Audouart. Charles Godin, aged 24, married Marie Boucher, who was only 12 years old.[^4]

The religious ceremony took place on November 6, 1656, at the home of Marie's parents in Chùteau-Richer. The marriage was celebrated by Father André Richard after the publication of three banns.

Death

Charles Godin died in L'Ange-Gardien, Canada, sometime between December 1, 1706, and January 18, 1712. He was approximately 75 years old.[^8]

Marie Boucher (1644 - 1730)

Origins and Family

Marie Boucher (first name variant: Made) was the daughter of the pioneer couple Marin Boucher and Perrine Mallet.[^9]

Birth and Baptism

Marie was born in Sainte-Anne-de-Beaupré, Canada, on April 11, 1644, and was baptized the same day (though the record was registered later at Notre-Dame de Québec church in 1647). Her godfather was Massé Gravel, and her godmother was Marie Guyon, wife of François Bellanger.[^10][^11]

Death

Marie Boucher died in L'Ange-Gardien, Canada, on July 15, 1730.[^16]

Children of Charles Godin & Marie Boucher

Charles and Marie had a total of 17 children.[^5] Sixteenth of them are noted to have founded a home, spreading the lineage along the north shore of the St. Lawrence River and into Ontario and the United States.[^8]
