Marie-Madeleine Roussin & Pierre Tremblay

This document outlines the lives of Marie Roussin, a native-born settler of New France, and Pierre Tremblay, the pioneer Seigneur of Les Éboulements.

Marie Roussin (1669 – After 1754)

Origins and Biography

Marie Roussin was born on November 25, 1669, in L'Ange-Gardien, Canada, New France. She lived a long life, surviving her husband by over 17 years.

  • Status Note: Although the provided source states she was one of the Filles du Roi (King's Daughters), this is historically impossible, as the program ran from 1663-1673 and involved French immigrants, while Marie was born in New France in 1669. She was a native-born pioneer whose large family significantly contributed to the colony's growth.
  • Marriage: She married Pierre Tremblay on November 15, 1685, in L'Ange-Gardien.[^4]
  • Later Life: The last known record of Marie Roussin is from May 1754, at which time she was 84 years old.[^5]

Pierre Tremblay (1660 – 1736)

Origins and Role

Pierre Tremblay was the son of Pierre Tremblay and Ozanne Jeanne Achon.

  • Birth/Baptism: He was baptized on August 12, 1660, in Quebec City, New France.[^5]
  • First Marriage: On November 3, 1683, he first married Marie Madeleine Simard in Sainte-Anne-de-Beaupré, with whom he had one child that died in infancy.
  • Second Marriage: He married Marie Roussin in 1685.
  • Role: He was the Seigneur of Les Éboulements, a municipality in the Charlevoix region.
  • Death: He died on October 17, 1736, and was buried in Petite-Rivière-Saint-François, Charlevoix.[^4]

Pierre Tremblay and Marie Roussin had 15 known children (14 surviving infancy, 13 of whom married and had families), in addition to the one child from his first marriage.
