Early Life and Immigration

Émery Blouin (also known as Méry, Mederie, Merry, or Émeri Beslouin) was the son of André Bellouin (c. 1615–before 1669) and Françoise Touzelet (c. 1620–before 1669).

  • Birth/Baptism: Born and baptized on April 26, 1640, in Saint-Pierre d’Étusson, diocese of Luçon, Poitou (now Deux-Sèvres), France.
    • The baptismal record states: "Le vingt sixième joure du mois d’avril mil six cens quarante a été baptisé Emeri fils de Andre Beslouin et de Françoize Touzelet sa femme..."
  • Immigration to New France: He arrived in Quebec in 1664, possibly aboard the White Eagle (Fressinque) or the Black Amsterdam. His first official mention in records is in 1665.
  • Indentured Service: He worked for three years as an indentured servant to repay his passage.
  • Land Ownership: In 1667, he received a three-acre parcel of land in front of St. John on the Isle of Orleans, adjacent to three acres he already owned, in return for diligently working the land.

Marriage to Marie Carreau

  • Contract: A marriage contract was signed before Notary Paul Vachon dit Pomerleau on November 5, 1669.
  • Marriage: On November 30, 1669, Emery (age 29) married Marie Carreau (age 14) in the Chapel of L’Ange-Gardien, Canada. The marriage was recorded at the parish of La-Visitation-de-Notre-Dame, Château-Richer.

Marie Carreau: The Matriarch

Early Life

Marie Carreau was the daughter of Louys Carreau (c. 1621–1693) and Jeanne le Rouge (1628–1696), also known as Jeanne La Rouge dite Saint-Denis.

  • Birth/Baptism: Born on March 20, 1655, in Quebec, Canada, and baptized the following day (March 21) at Notre-Dame parish.
  • 1667 Census (Carreau Family, Côte de Beaupré):
    • Louis Carreau (48), Jeanne La Rouge (40), Marie Carreau (12), Jeanne (9), Marguerite (6), Louise (4). They had 5 arpents (acres) under cultivation.

Death and Burial

  • Emery Blouin: Died on July 14, 1707, at age 67, after 38 years of marriage. He was buried the same day at Saint-Jean-Baptiste Church, Saint-Jean, Isle of Orleans, Quebec.
  • Marie Carreau: Died on February 10, 1722, at age 66. She was buried the following day, February 11, 1722, at Saint-Jean-Baptiste parish, Saint-Jean, Isle of Orleans, Quebec.

Their descendants have since spread throughout Canada and the United States, forming the core Blouin family lineage in North America.
